Case study - Jenny

Jenny is a single mother with a six year old son. She developed a heroin habit at the age of 21 and since then her son has been cared for by her mother, due to her inability to look after him. She was convicted of 29 offences in total, largely for shoplifting and received a community order.

Jenny attends four appointments a week with the IOM team. Work has included drug rehabilitation, problem solving, self confidence and a moving towards constructive activities to encourage Jenny into employment.

Jenny has made good progress in battling drugs, and is drug free most days, although she does still have the occasional lapse. She has two part time jobs, lives in her own home and has regular access to her son. Since working with the IOM team, there have been no further offences.
